Quick verdict

The Flip8 is the pocketable option: 180 g, 75.4 x 85.7 mm folded. Its trade-offs are a 12MP ultra wide, a 4,300 mAh battery and a cover screen that runs at 60 or 120Hz. Wait for battery reviews if endurance matters most.

Three things to think about

  • Battery. 4,300 mAh is modest for a 6.9-inch screen. Samsung's figure is a typical lab value, so real endurance needs testing.
  • Exynos vs Snapdragon. Past Exynos chips drew mixed reviews for heat and efficiency. Judge the 2600 on independent reviews, not history.
  • Cover screen use. At 4.1 inches you can run apps on the outside, which is the point of buying a Flip over a normal phone.

Flip8 vs the Fold8

The Fold8 is a tablet that folds; the Flip8 is a phone that folds in half. The Fold8 has a 50MP ultra wide and 4,800 mAh battery, but weighs 201 g. See our Fold8 Ultra vs Fold8 comparison if you're weighing the bigger models.

How we researched this

This is a research-based review, not a hands-on test. We did not have these phones in hand. We compared the official specification pages from Apple, Google and Samsung with launch coverage and published reviews from established outlets, and we list every source below. Where sources disagree we say so. Battery and camera claims are the makers' own figures unless we name an independent reviewer.
