The short version

Samsung now sells three foldables: a new wide-screen Fold8 Ultra (8.0-inch inside, 200MP camera, 5,000 mAh), a lighter Fold8 (201 g) and the Flip8 on Exynos 2600. Pre-orders opened July 22 in select markets.

Samsung used its July 22, 2026 Galaxy Unpacked in London to split its book-style foldable into two models for the first time. The new Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra takes the big camera and big battery, and the regular Fold8 is the lighter, narrower phone. The Galaxy Z Flip8 continues as the compact clamshell. This post sticks to what Samsung's own newsroom and spec sheet say. We have not used these phones.

What's actually new

  • A wider Ultra. The Fold8 Ultra's 8.0-inch inner screen is nearly square (2,504 x 2,256), and its 6.5-inch cover screen is as wide as a normal phone. That fixes the most common complaint about narrow Fold cover screens.
  • The Ultra gets the S-series camera. A 200MP main sensor with OIS plus a 10MP 3x telephoto. The regular Fold8 drops the telephoto entirely and runs two 50MP cameras.
  • Weight goes down on the Fold8. 201 g, which Samsung's own follow-up article frames as a drop from 253 g on older Fold generations.
  • Exynos returns on the Flip. The Flip8 uses Samsung's Exynos 2600 rather than Snapdragon, the opposite of both Folds.
  • Android 17 and One UI 9 out of the box, with new Galaxy AI features such as Now Nudge and AI Bokeh in Portrait mode (Samsung notes AI Bokeh photos are 12MP).

Colors and availability

Samsung lists Graphite and Cream for all three, plus Violet Shadow on the Fold8 Ultra, Lavender on the Fold8 and Pink on the Flip8, and a Samsung.com-only Green Shadow. Colors vary by market. Samsung's global release does not give one set of US prices, so check Samsung.com or your carrier for local pricing before you pre-order.

What we don't know yet

Real-world battery life, crease durability and camera quality need independent reviews. Samsung's battery figures are typical lab values. We'll link reviews from established outlets once they are published.
