The ANC confusion
Sources disagree. Apple's newsroom presents ANC as an AirPods 5 feature, while Hypebeast reports ANC only on the $149 model. Check Apple's tech specs page for your exact model before buying if noise cancellation is the reason you're upgrading.
Who should buy which
- Have a MagSafe or Qi charger already: the $149 model pays off.
- Mostly charge by cable: the $129 model.
- Want sealed-in noise blocking: open-ear AirPods are still not AirPods Pro.

How we researched this
This is a research-based review, not a hands-on test. We did not have these phones in hand. We compared the official specification pages from Apple, Google and Samsung with launch coverage and published reviews from established outlets, and we list every source below. Where sources disagree we say so. Battery and camera claims are the makers' own figures unless we name an independent reviewer. Prices are US launch prices from the official pages and can differ at carriers and retailers.
